Acorn collectors may get 4-5 thousand forints per day. For many of them, this is the only source of livelihood in the autumn period. “We’ve been collecting acorns continuously for a month now because many of us don’t receive any aids, there are no job opportunities and this gives us something to live on.” – Csaba Lakatos explained.
This year, Nyírerd? Zrt. paid 70 forints for one kilo of acorn. They use the acorns to plant oak trees. “In the last few days, we finished buying up the acorn yield, we have the needed quantity and we have already sowed part of it for the purpose of afforestation.” – Forestry manager György Fekete said.
